Imperial starships - useless waste of credits?

I have been experimenting with Imperial starship attacks, and honestly, I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if they are just useless and incredibly expensive.

I have Starship Command lv6 and all starships upgraded to lv5. One strike does, well, very little. Even the strike that is supposed to be a shieldbuster takes out maybe a quarter of one shield, and it just cost me 8.000cr, half as much as my ground forces combined!! And don't say aim more accurately, I hit it spot on. The anti-turret strike does the same: a couple of turrets take maybe 10% damage. What is the point?

Each ship has its strengths that you must cater to...I usually use the basic TIE Fighter(level 6) which does 21k damage. The turrets of the same level have 16k HP, so its a one-hit kill.

I totally agree with Loosh. I do not get it. I have a level 6 TIE Bomber and it is useless. I also thought I was not using it properly. I now only use TIE fighter Level 7 which only allow to destroy 1 to 3 targets (if very close) but usually just one.

I find all starships simply useless, except for the Tie fighter lev 8, the only one that is doing well his job.

I use the TIE fighter and Interceptor effectively, but only as assurance or for specific strategies. Tie Fighters are for single targets (usually turrets) that aren't guarded by shields. Tie Interceptors are best for walls (again, not under a shield). I've yet to take a shield out with a starship. Also, all mine are lvl 6 and my HQ is lvl 6.

In general, though, the star ships are too expensive. I always try to have a few, though, just in case. I've gotten 100% at the very last second because I've had fighters and I've saved my units from getting slaughtered. Just don't make them a part of your regular plan and use them to save yourself or get that last star.

Currently there's either the TIE figher or X-Wing.
To attack troops from the SC (heavies, snipers, troopers) also a VT-49 Decimator/HWK-290 is very useful. You can get/upgrade these in events only. Also I like the HWK-290 bombing animation very much. I assume the VT-49 uses the same.

But the Devs said that they're about to update the spaceship system similar to the transports. Allrounders like the TIE/X-Wing will occupy more space and specialists like the TIE-Advanced/A-Wing will occupy less space. Let's wait and see. Perhaps the attackers spoiling 6 TIEs on my base will have to use more brain in the future. :-)

damage has been recently patched in patch 3.5.0.4
I think it made things better altought i think the time to make the spaceships sucks...

I agree the time it takes to make the starships with how much the actual contribute to a conflict makes no sense what so ever. Having them isn't a game changer although sometimes it can make the difference between 2 or three stars.

Starships should never be relied upon for your regular load out, too costly and slow refill. What they excel at is destroying troops from a full SC, getting resources that you would otherwise miss, and getting an extra star. They can be the swing easily from 0-1, 1-2 and 2-3. Ideally squad center used the same way. That way if things go sideways, you still have plenty of firepower to clear 3 stars.

well put cleaner, I agree. I sometimes use a wall buster to start my battle, but those cook quicker and are less costly. I always fill my starship que before I log out, so that it is full when I play again. Best advise is reading the description on each fighter and trying them for that purpose. The turret fighters won't take out the turrets usually, but it does soften them up quite a bit for the attacking troops. Focus on their strengths, and they will work for you
