Squad War Matchmaking Data

In an effort to better understanding the matchmaking process for wars, I am starting this thread so that people can share data about matchups. Abbreviations used are:

WPAHQ = Average HQ level of 15 member war party
WPAM = Average medals of 15 member war party
WPBS = Average Base Score (base strength) of 15 member war party
WPABS = Average Adjusted Base Score of 15 member war party [WPABS = (WPAM*0.00004 + 0.99)*WPBS]
SAHQ = Average HQ level of overall squad
SAM = Average medals of overall squad
SBS = Average Base Score (base strength) of overall squad
SABS = Average Adjusted Base Score of overall squad [SABS = (SAM*0.00004 + 0.99)*SBS]
MMT = Time in matchmaking before a match was found
SSRO = Squad strength relative to opponent [i.e. (squad ABS – opponent ABS)/squad ABS]

I’ll post the first example with a template that can be copy and pasted by anyone else. If there is any other criteria that anyone thinks impacts the matchmaking, we can look to include that as well.

My hope is that by sharing data across factions and matchmaking levels, we can better understand how this process works.

Data | Squad (imp) | Squad (reb) | SSRO
WPAHQ | 8.0 | 8.7 | -8.3%
WPAM | 8025 | 4917 | 39.2%
WPBS | 1907 | 2178 | -14.2%
WPABS | 2205 | 2584 | -3.2%

SBS | 1866 | 1692 | 9.3%
SABS | 2376 | 1906 | 19.8%
MMT | less than 5 minutes

* DS - I know you can format this better than I can (✓ Done), and you can share some high level war matchup data

** so far, as expected, War Party Adjusted Base Score seems to be the driving factor

wow, I didn't know you're into data analysis!
did you calculate all the params manually?

Actually it would be cool to mine all this data from SOD database but 'fraid it doesn't record who were in war party in each particular match up.

I'm a numbers guy through and through but I'll leave the fancy computer stuff to those better suited for it. I can't imagine the main server keeping war party data so this is a manual operation for now. Fortunately, KSOD info can be copied into Excel. It only takes about 5 minutes for each match.

I've been using a pad and pencil. I've got the base names and base scores of War Parties from quite a few Wars. I'll try to upload some in a day or so.

I've got to say, Pirate that I commend your efforts, but you are asking for an awful lot of data. I haven't kept track of HQ levels, or medal tallies, as I quickly found they are irrelevant for matchmaking in Wars.

I'm pretty sure all they do is take the base scores, add them up and have a v simple algorithmm such as 'if War Party's base scores are within 130 (135?)% of the lower base's score, it's an acceptable match'.

I'm pretty sure 120% used to be the max.
HQ 10 - 15K medals - Kenobi's Command - L 50 Squad - Max perks - 3 Squad Wars a week

Stop by for Wars, perks and rep points. We're maxed out.

If you are in a squad war, and leave squad.....then come back before war starts. Will you still be in the war?

You can't leave a squad while in a war.

ObiWan - anything you can share is useful, especially at your squad's level and with the high differences in Base Score that you're seeing. I can document data every 2 days but it isn't going to help figure out the wonky high level matchups (at least not for a while). I think it's safe to say that only War Party info matters, I just figured I'd document whole Squad's info just in case. I think the numbers that matter are Avg War Party Base Score, Avg War Party Adjusted Base Score and Matchmaking Time.

Two main goals with comparing data:

1) Is War MM based just on Base Scores or Adjusted Base Scores to factor in medals? This should be easy to nail down.

2) Does the MM algorithm start by looking for close matchups (+/-5%) and then continue to expand the range it searches as time goes on (up to +/-30% that you are seeing, or further)? If strength variance is time based, maybe we can determine the time intervals and we can advise people to cancel long running MM after a certain time.

We only got a very brief War MM explanation near the end of the Playdom forum and it may have changed since then. Anything we can do to better understand the game is just going to make it a better experience.

Mine is a rebel squad, so I listed it first.
FYI. My squad has 22 total members. The imp squad has 20 total members. So neither squad has a full 30 for the SAHQ, SAM, SBS, and SABS calculations.
And yes, it takes hours for my rebel squad to match up for war. It's been this way since January.

Data | Squad (reb)| Squad (imp) | SSRO
WPAHQ | 6.7 | 7.7 | -14.4%
WPAM | 4507 | 1771 | 60.7%
WPBS | 1445 | 1776 | -22.9%
WPABS | 1691 | 1884 | -11.4%
SAHQ | 6.6 | 7.0 | -16.7%
SAM | 3073 | 1328 | 56.8%
SBS | 1370 | 1519 | -10.9%
SABS | 1524 | 1584 | -3.9%
MMT | 6.5 hours

*edited to show SSRO in percentages
