ANSWER: 6m 7s per the info found on the SWC Wiki.

they destroy shield generators for only 3 UC;
trigger traps, dekas and SC on the way to shields (to me that's an advantage);
they are looters;
they are very fast units;
Since I unlocked Kubaz/Ithorian for any of my bases, I preferably attack bases with gaps in the walls, or holes near the shields where I can deploy them to access the shields as quickly as possible.
I have always been hesitant to upgrade Kubaz/Ithorian. But with the upgrade they will do more damage, and destroy a shield with a single wave of fire and move to another shield and destroy it as well -- a Level 1 can die before finish destroy a shield. Sometimes I am surprised when I attack bases with two close shields, and I only need 2 Itho/Kubaz to destroy the 4 shields - a Prestige base trend with range 7 shields is to place them as close as possible and well into the base to avoid shield busters.
Increased health allows him to survive to reach and destroy a farther shield even after losing the protective shield.
All my bases, I keep a barrack only to train Kubaz/Ithorians, and put 1 to train in the other barracks ahead of the jets/jumps to have at least 4 in my loadout. Is the only unit I use crystals to have at least 4 ready to attack. Improving or not depends on the level of my rivals. But never upgrade them to Prestige due to crystals cost.
I have frags to level them up, but I keep them at level 5 for my two Prestige, HQ 9, HQ 8, but Level 4 for my Imperial HQ 6. The only base I have this unit level 1 is my Rebel HQ 6, so I plan to work on this event to have it at level 4 at least.
