Are Burst Turrets Worth the Swap?

I am a level 7 HQ and have only two burst turrets and mostly RFT and Rocket turrets with two mortars. After the recent update with the buff of the bursts are they worth switching over my other turrets?

You will receive many answers on here Ravenclaw, with a variety of views. The big changes recently are that bursts have a damage multiplier against jets/jumpers only, RFTs now deal less damage to all units than rockets. Mortars have a slight increased damage against ground units. My thoughts on changes are
- Bursts have a shorter range than rft/rockets
- only use bursts if you regularly get hit by jets/jumps
- rockets are better than rfts now
- RFTs are not worth keeping. Switch to rockets or bursts depending on what hits you most

According to the game data after the recent update , IMP mortar is now has a damage equal to rebel mortar. So earlier IMP mortar was slightly weaker than its equivalent.

About the RFTs, at higher lvls by getting attacked by hordes of jets you will see by yourself that RFTS are not worth and even rockets do better against jets when buffed and now it is almost a must to have bursts in your base now.

Does a level 4 heat sink for the RFT compensate for the nerf?

At HQ 7 i doubt you are constantly getting flattened by jumps/jets at this point, so you may want to stick with what you have for now and add addl burst as you upgrade (what i’m doing). I am a believer in having a good balance of turrets for war where no turrets have armoury perks. Switching over to 100% one type Or another will set you up for constant changes (there is another upgrade lurking this week).

So dont sweat it..you (being empire) will move to tatooine for hero defense/crates and let your screen time out only to get flattened 2 seconds later by lvl 10 jets. :)

I swapped from rf to burst three months ago, and it was worth it then. Now, it's the only option.

Bursts are great against tanks as well as jets, and against bruisers in general. I've won about 40 defenses since the latest buff as an 8 defending mostly against 10's. I'm sure they'll be nerfed sooner or later, but right now it's great. With a decent setup, hailfires aren't the silver bullet most players worry about.

IMP RFTs have been significantly nerfed that they became obsolete.
So, yes to the question of whether should swap out of RFTs.
Now to the question which turret to swap to, then it depends ...
It depends on what type of attack load you’ve been seeing.
It depends on your base layout, and which armory equipments are you using.
It depends on whether your are only interested in PVP, or war, or both.

if you intend to use equipments on turrets (health and damage), then it is better to go with less types of turret to enjoy equipment benefits.
If you intend to use equipment on barracks and factories, then have a diversed set of turrets would be better, in both PVP and in WAR.

(DEVs, I know you guys have been lurking. Please restore IMP RFT back to decent level (comparable to other turrets). Otherwise, you have removed this unit from the game, and that’s unfortunate.)

This appears to be a much more than a passing whim from the developers. In the 100+ attacks since this change I have yet to be stopped by any combination turrets as proper deployment of the AT-AT Hauler changes the tactics in pvp

So the jury is out and until such time as it makes sense to switch out my turrets. Tactics are hit tat, grab the loot, upgrade a turret and so on ,

With the current game Matchmaking you can expect to be hit by Players with HQ Levels that are +2 to +3 higher than you.

With that said, a HQ 7 can expect visits from Opponents with a HQ Level 8 to HQ Level 10.

At HQ Level 8 Opponents Unlock the Jetpack Trooper (Rebels) or Jump Trooper (Empire) which means you will see these in Attack Loadouts more.

And so to defend against Jetpack / Jump Hordes here are the Damage Modifiers (for Flying Infantry)for all Turrets:

  • Rapid Fire Turret = 100% Damage. (other Units = 100%)
  • Proton Mortar = 0% Damage.
  • Rocket Turret = 50% Damage.
  • Burst Turret = 140% Damage (other Units = 100% to 125%)
  • Sonic Turrets = 100% Damage. (other Units = 100% // But Percentage Damage)
AND SO... to answer your Question - I would swap Proton Mortars and/or Rockets to Bursts.

Run bursts and as you’ll be attacked by HQ levels higher than yours, try to focus on basing you defense on your squad center (try to kessen and x-wing proof) and guard reserve more than anything. Level 10 sample rodians in your SC will do far more damage than all of your level 7 bursts as long as they can be deployed and not lured. Eventually you’ll have a lvl 10 HQ and would see a benefit in swapping some of those bursts out for level 10 sonic turrets.
