If there is one thing this game was known for it was the snobbery of high level players and squads - and at least the prestige for all has put an end to that. Since that point, the game has become a lot more fun and most, if not all the snobs have either quit or designed bases with messages using walls to say things!
Best one I saw was a player called Rogue One who creatively used his walls to say "Fuck You Zynga".
I was reading this forum for a long long time and there was a dedicated element of people predicting the game would close, even going as far as stating that they had been emailing Zynga and one person claiming he even called them to enquire about it?! Have to wonder if these kinds of people played into the hands of the game makers.
At least though with the current worldwide lockdown the final 3 months of this game has given people who didnt quit or write messages using walls, something to remember the time by. At least the Zynga mob had the decency to do that for everyone.
LOL, yeah we saw that Rogue One base. One of our squad members passed on the replay. Got a chuckle out of that one. I think what Zynga did at the end, with the crystals, was overall a good thing. It gave everyone a chance at closure and some time to test run all the units at max levels. It leveled the playing field if just for a while, made the game tilt back to offense for the masses, but did not remove the need for skill, etc. Faceplants by "new" Prestiges were living proof of that. I didn't take it as a slap in the face for all the hours I spent. I didn't spend that time to be "king of the hill", I just played for the fun of it and enjoyed the challenge. I also had fun with squad members and helping others enjoy the game. I didn't think a game makes sense, if it only rewards 2% of the players. That's a losing proposition. Even Casinos don't live just off the whales. They make it fun for the masses.
The problem was always going to be money vs. game format. The game needed to make money or there would be no use in continuing. All the suggestions that came up from players, never considered the money aspect. CoC is able to continue because it has a bigger player base, so they can speed up timers and they would not need to make as much off each player. I do wish that Zynga tested a Gold Pass type concept, when it was clear the other options were not going to work. At least give that a go, but that ship has sailed.
I do agree that the game is more fun for me now, and less work. I was not one of those that liked the conflict concept. I was ok with Events, which made more sense.
